The Michigan Gaming Control Board Cracks Down on 13 Illegal Offshore Gambling Websites
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has once again taken decisive action against 13 illegal offshore gambling websites operating in the state without proper licenses. These websites have been found to engage in deceptive practices that endanger consumers, including withholding winnings and imposing unfair wagering requirements.
Violation of State Law
All 13 offshore gambling sites, including well-known names like Captain Jack Casino, Ducky Luck Casino, and Planet 7 Casino, have violated Michigan law by operating without the necessary state licenses. The operators of these sites, based in jurisdictions like Curaçao and Costa Rica, have been issued cease-and-desist orders by the MGCB to stop all unlawful activities within 14 days.
Henry Williams, Executive Director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, emphasized the risks these illegal gambling websites pose to Michigan residents. He stated, “Our priority is to maintain a secure and regulated gaming environment. These websites not only violate Michigan’s laws but also engage in deceptive practices that endanger consumers.”
The MGCB has warned that if the operators fail to comply with the cease-and-desist orders, legal action will be pursued in collaboration with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
Engagement in Dishonest Practices
An investigation conducted by the MGCB revealed that the 13 offshore gambling sites allowed Michigan players to gamble using various payment methods, including credit cards, PayPal, and cryptocurrencies. These sites were also found to engage in dishonest practices such as restricting withdrawals and imposing unreasonable wagering thresholds.
Moreover, the offshore operators do not meet Michigan’s standards for responsible gaming, consumer protection, or data security, putting players at significant financial risks.
MGCB’s Continued Efforts
In addition to the recent crackdown on the 13 illegal offshore gambling websites, the MGCB has previously taken action against dozens of unregulated gaming sites. Last week, 11 additional offshore gambling websites were targeted, including Bet Big Dollar Casino, Jumba Bet Casino, and Las Atlantis Casino.
Earlier this year, cease-and-desist letters were sent to operators of well-known sites like CoolCat Casino, Palace of Chance, and WagerWeb for conducting illegal gambling activities in Michigan.
It is important to note that licensed online gambling operators are allowed to offer online casinos and sports betting in Michigan. The first regulated casino sites were launched in January 2021, providing a safe and secure environment for Michigan residents to enjoy online gambling activities.
